Property Description:
Featuring an innovative and sustainable cross laminated timber design, the new Civic Precinct will bring together staff from seven Geelong offices to drive collaboration, reduce costs, and future-proof the city’s workplace needs. The 6-storey building will include active public spaces, co-working spaces, retail and food tenancies, and end-of-trip facilities.
Reason you were engaged:
Heelguard Grating were approached by Cooke & Dowsett plumbing subcontractors to propose an alternative, fit for purpose surface water management system to external paved areas as well as the end of trip facilities.
Description of work performed:
In order to meet required hydraulic performance, Australian Standards compliance and aesthetic requirements, Click Drain 100 and 200 series was the perfect fit for this application. Membrane Drain was the product of choice for the end of trip shower facilities, ensuring waterproofing practices were of the highest standard.
Considerations:
Working closely with MA Civil and Cox architecture, Heelguard Grating was able to satisfy all structural requirements due to depth restrictions. Click Drain’s versatility meant we were able to overcome the challenges of form and function.

Client / Stakeholder Feedback:
As a supply only contract to Cooke & Dowsett, installation was carried out by the landscape subcontractors, Landscape Plus. This was the first time Landscape Plus had installed Click Drain having had previous experience installing polymer concrete systems. The installers claimed Click Drain was a “breath of fresh air” to install. The ease of handling a lighter product combined with the longer 2m length drains and concrete ties meant setting the drain up was both straight forward and much quicker. Time is money as they say!
Summary:
Supplying in excess of 150 lineal meters to this high profile, sustainable and socially conscious project was another feather in Heelguard’s cap. We are proud to have contributed to another successful project.
